Have you ever wondered how to help someone who is going through a hard time? Maybe they are facing cancer, death of a loved one, long-term illness or another significant challenge. You want to show them that you care, but you don't know what to say or do.

You are not alone. Many of us struggle with how to love our neighbors in their time of trial. We worry about saying the wrong thing, doing too much or too little, or making things worse instead of better.

That's why I'm so glad I found this book: Alongside: A Practical Guide for Loving Your Neighbor in Their Time of Trial by Sarah Beckman.

Sarah is a speaker, writer and blogger who has experienced both sides of the coin: She has been the one in need of help after multiple back surgeries, and she has been the one offering help to friends facing cancer and other hardships.

In her book, she shares her personal stories and insights from others who have faced trials. She also gives practical tools and tips on how to love well with tangible actions and words.

Some of the things I learned from this book are:
- How to overcome the insecurity of doing the wrong thing
- How to gain confidence to love well with tangible actions
- How to discern between helpful and unhelpful words to say
- How to identify personalized ways to serve more effectively - How to live out the biblical command to love your neighbor

This book is not only informative but also inspiring. It challenged me to think beyond my comfort zone and be more intentional about reaching out to those who are hurting. It also reminded me that loving others is not only a duty but also a privilege and a joy.
